Come and meet those dancing feet! 42nd Street at the Morrison Center

Come and meet those dancing feet! Broadway is back in Boise.

Nov 6 and 7: This sparkling new production is directed by co-author Mark Bramble and choreographed by Randy Skinner, the team who staged the 2001 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival. 42ND STREET delivers everything you want in a Broadway musical – singing, dancing, hopes, dreams, laughs and some of the greatest songs ever written, including “We’re In The Money,” ” Lullaby of Broadway” and, of course, “42nd Street,” at the Morrison Center.

42nd Street is an American musical with a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, lyrics by Al Dubin, and music by Harry Warren. The 1980 Broadway production, produced by David Merrick, directed by an ailing Gower Champion and orchestrated by Philip J. Lang, won the Tony Award for Best Musical and became a long-running hit.

The show was produced in London in 1984 (winning the Olivier Award for Best Musical) and its 2001 Broadway revival won the Tony for Best Revival. Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and the subsequent 1933 Hollywood film adaptation, the show focuses on the efforts of famed dictatorial Great White Way director Julian Marsh to mount a successful stage production of a musical extravaganza at the height of the Great Depression.

This dance-heavy 1980 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical is based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and the 1933 Academy Award-winning musical film.

The shows official website details the story:

Peggy Sawyer arrives in New York City from Allenstown, PA with hopes of becoming a Broadway star. Facing adversity from all directions, the young but talented performer learns about show business and discovers which relationships are most important in life. With highs and lows in her early career, Peggy experiences growth as both a performer and a young woman.

The tour will launch at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, under the auspices of the Center Theatre Group, and will then tour North America for multiple seasons, playing multi-week and week-long engagements. Announced cities for the 2015-16 Touring season are below. Casting and additional cities will be announced at a later time. For more information, please, as well as Facebook and Twitter.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by The Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp. This new production is directed by Jack O'Brien (credits include: Hairspray, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Coast of Utopia), and choreographed by Danny Mefford (Broadway's Fun Home, The Bridges of Madison County and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). The design and production team is comprised of Douglas Schmidt, Set Design (Tony Award® nominee: 42nd Street, Into the Woods); Jane Greenwood, Costume Design (2014 recipient of Special Tony Award ® for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre), Natasha Katz, Lighting Design (Four-time Tony Award® winner: Once, Aida, The Coast of Utopia, The Glass Menagerie) and Ken Travis, Sound Design (Aladdin, Newsies, Memphis).

According to director Jack O'Brien, "THE SOUND OF MUSIC has been in our ears for decades, as it deserves to be. But it might be time to look once more, and more closely, at this remarkable work which, I feel, begins to reveal itself as deeper, richer, and more powerful than ever. It's no longer 'your mother's' familiar SOUND OF MUSIC. We are tearing off the varnish of the past from one of the great glories of our theatergoing experience and making it fresh! This is an opportunity we've all longed to create!"

Producer Beth Williams (Grove Entertainment) said, "It's a great privilege to bring this beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein musical to theaters across North America. We hope that people of all ages will continue to fall in love with it for the first time, or all over again, and that it will truly become one of their 'favorite things.' From our distinguished team led by the creative master Jack O'Brien, audiences can expect a truly magnificent production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC."

In the words of Ted Chapin, President and Executive Director of Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagem Company, "THE SOUND OF MUSIC continues to be the world's most beloved musical.  When a major national tour was suggested, I not only agreed, but was willing to roll up my sleeves and do whatever I could to fashion a new stage production that would re-engage today's theatergoing public. The show was originally created for Broadway, and seeing it on stage only reinforces the power of the story and the score. And with Jack O'Brien at the directorial helm - well, we simply couldn't do better. Landing somewhere between The Coast of Utopia and Hairspray (shows for which Jack won the Tony®), his production will be smart, focused, and surprising.  I can't wait."

THE SOUND OF MUSIC enjoyed extraordinary success as the first live television production of a musical in over 50 years when "The Sound of Music Live!" aired on NBC in December, 2013; 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the film version, which continues to be the most successful movie musical in history. The spirited, romantic and beloved musical story of Maria and the Von Trapp Family will once again thrill audiences with such songs as "My Favorite Things," "Do-Re-Mi," "Climb Ev'ry Mountain," "Edelweiss" and the title song. Led by vocalist/rhythm guitarist Ross Lynch, R5 came together in 2009 and is comprised of Lynch's siblings Riker (bass/vocals), Rocky (lead guitar/vocals) and Rydel (keyboard/vocals) and friend Ellington "Ratliff" (drums/vocals). R5 has rapidly emerged as an exciting new voice in the world of pop rock. The band has moved one step closer to world domination with the release of their much-anticipated first single "Let's Not Be Alone Tonight" off their upcoming sophomore album, the follow up to their hit debut album LOUDER, which rocketed to No. 1 on iTunes in 10 countries upon its September 24, 2013 release. The band has recently appeared on Good Morning America, Ellen and LIVE! with Kelly & Michael.

Riker can currently be seen on Season 20 of ABC's smash hit Dancing With The Stars, consistently receiving high praise from the judges and fans alike.

Ross currently stars as Austin Moon, one-half of an internet music duo, on the Disney Channel's hit comedy series Austin & Ally, which is in its fourth and final season. On Saturday, Ross won his third consecutive Kids' Choice Award for Favorite TV Actor for his role on the show. This summer, fans will be able to catch him on the silver screen as modern day surfer Brady in the Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach 2, the sequel to 2013's smash hit Teen Beach Movie.

The band self-released their first EP, Ready Set Rock in 2010 and signed with Hollywood Records in April of 2012 and released their second EP, Loud, on February 19, 2013. The quintet starred in a 5-part VEVO series titled "R5 on R5," which saw cameras follow them on a 2013 sold-out tour that included shows in the U.S., Canada, Australia, England and France. The band made a triumphant return to Europe in early 2014 and recently released a 6-part VEVO series, R5 Live in London, capturing the mania of R5 fans during a magnetic show in London this past March. In April, the band will bring R5: All Day, All Night to the big screen for one night only. The documentary offers a never-before-seen look at the band's career from inception to the present and includes exclusive interviews, concert footage and footage from the band's early years.

‪#‎Facebook‬ ‪#‎Tips‬ from Bri Clark of Belle Consulting: Offer value

Here are some great ideas from the sassy social media maven,  Bri Clark of Belle Consulting

"Offer value. Your Facebook page is a great venue for updates on your ‪#‎business‬, but don’t get carried away. People don’t want or need an in-depth report on your latest company picnic. Instead, offer greater value by combining a timely mix of content about your business (product tips, sales events, behind-the-scenes items and photos) with third-party content, such as ‪#‎links‬ to industry blogs and forums. This builds your credibility as a resource of value to users."
Bri adds:
"Try including a regular weekly or monthly feature, such as a 'discount of the week' with a special offer on a product or service. Let fans know this is an ongoing feature, so they’ll come back next time as well."

Making Grammar Fun

Garner makes grammar fun, and readers will not only find elucidation but also moments of pure delight while browsing these pages. This edition includes more than 10,500 entries (an increase of approximately 1500 over the 2003 volume). There are preface statements from all three editions as well as new, worthwhile introductory essays: "Making Peace in the Language Wars" and "Ongoing Struggles of Garlic-Hangers" (a consideration of the descriptive vs. proscriptive debate). As always, the entries are not only filled with clear lessons about language usage, trends, and problems inherent in misuse, but they are also peppered with cleverly chosen examples of both usage and misusage. Entries run anywhere from a line or two about spelling ("espresso" not "expresso") to a full column (see "effete") or more (see "irregular verbs" and the table following). Added to this edition is a language-change index that rates where a disputed usage falls on a scale of 1-5 (with 1 being "widely rejected" and 5 being "universally accepted") so that readers can gauge the correctness of a phrase such as "Hopefully, it won't rain tomorrow." Garner isn't a snob, though. His book is the best of its kind in that it simply reports the facts in an engaging way; language evolves and usage changes. The book ends with a 46-page glossary of grammatical, rhetorical, and other language-related terms, and a 10-page time line of books on usage. An invaluable ready-reference tool.—Herman Sutter, Saint Agnes Academy, Houston, TX

Every once in a while, an author or book from outside the Idaho boundaries of this blog moves me to write about it here. It is because some topics are discussed widely by the people around me.

Here is one of those:

According to Booklist:

The “prescriptive/descriptive” debate in usage is alive and well with this newest edition of Garner’s readable work. Featuring more than 10,500 entries (up from 9,000), this edition features several enhancements. They include identifying poor usage with an asterisk before the terms and ranking certain entries with a “Language Change Index,” which measures “how widely accepted various linguistic innovations have become.” The scale is from 1 to 5, with 1 being rejected and 5 being fully accepted. For example, coupon being mispronounced “kyoo” instead of “koo” is given stage 4 (“the form is virtually universal but is opposed on cogent grounds by a few linguistic stalwarts”). More
Bryan A. Garner
than 2,000 usages are ranked. Extras in the volume include a new essay from Garner (“The Ongoing Struggles of Garlic-Hangers”) as well as the essay that appeared in the previous edition (“Making Peace in the Language Wars,” in which Garner describes himself as being “a kind of descriptive prescriber”) and a concluding 47-page glossary of grammatical terms and a time line of books on usage. The main focus remains Garner’s entries and usage notes. They range from word entries that simply verify the spelling (mayonnaise), to those clarifying two terms (sight, site), to those where he offers his never dull opinions (such as holocaust, which he calls “one of our most hyperbolic words, beloved of jargonmongers and second-rate journalists”). But the longer essay entries on usage, ranging from the half-page Officialese to the 9-page Punctuation, are Garner’s bread and butter. One would be tempted to say that this is clearly one of the best works on the topic, but doing so would be using one of Garner’s weasel words (intensives such as clearly that “actually have the effect of weakening a statement”). Suffice it to say that it is highly recommended for most libraries.

Win a Sony Blu Ray Player With Author Sky Alexander

Book 1 of The Fires of Love & Hate Series
An Idaho author and publisher has  an innovative design to help others achieve their goal of seeing their works in print.

Rising Phoenix Inc. is helping others achieve their dreams.

"We have seen some contracts with publishing companies where as an author they are not getting my fair share of a book deal," says founder and author Sky Alexander.

With each sale of a book, the buyer will be entered into a sweepstakes to win a Sony Blu Ray Player.

This is why my company was designed to help authors. Authors who joining myself and my team at Rising Phoenix will have the full support of a publisher. This includes the editing, marketing, cover design, formatting and all services you would find at a large publisher. The difference is that my publishing house will split the profits 50/50 with the author and help them be able to finally see the benefits of their hard life’s work. My dream is to help authors who really want to write and become the next JK Rowling, Stephen King or Tom Clancy. Mission Change the world one book at a time.

Here is an example of Sky's riveting work:

FORCED TO LOVE is one of 20 books in Sky’s series The Fires of Love & Hate (Historical Romance Collection).

“Inspiration can come from anywhere, but nothing is more uplifting and irresistible to me as a new Sky Alexander novel," writes Heather on Goodreads. "This is one of my new favorites, (with FORCED TO LOVE) Sky Alexander shows his unique writing style that reminds us of how great historical romance and western romance can be written that reminds you of classics but with new addictive twists that are uplifting and intriguing in The Fires of Love & Hate (Historical Romance Collection). Hattie really shows that through thick and then love for your family is one of the most important things.”
Hattie Morran is a poor dirt farmers daughter in Missouri. Suddenly Hattie finds that her life is changed in the blink of an eye and she is forced to love Abner Garland. Now her Western Romance which is purely a fa├žade for show and to save her family will soon come to an end. “But what about their anger?” Hattie asked. “Jess and Abner will be furious.” “Furious doesn’t even begin to describe how they’re going to react. Even though I probably shouldn’t, I am going to set them up with handsome allowances. What can they do? I’m of sound mind. So, Miss Hattie, when you marry Abner, I will give you nine-tenths of my fortune, and the remainder will be yours at my death.”
Author and Publisher Sky Alexander

From the moment that you are brought into the book you will be immediately part of the western romance in the middle of the south. The Fires of Love & Hate Series will keep you right in the middle of a tale that is based on some true and historical events. This historical romance series is sure to be you’re new favorite.
